Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha Attends the Opening Ceremony of the First Straddle Monorail Yellow Line in Bangkok

Page view

On 19th June , the straddle monorail yellow line in Bangkok, Thailand was put into trail operation, and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha attended the launch ceremony. The Yellow Line is the first straddle monorail rail transit line in Thailand, and it connects Lat Phrao in Bangkok and Samrong in Samut Prakan province, with a total length of 30.4km and 23 stations. The opening of the line will effectively improve the serious traffic congestion along the line.

It is reported that on the morning of the trial operation, many Thai people and journalists went to experience the trial operation route, and many passengers queued up at the starting station to take the train.

The Yellow Line is the first driverless urban line in Bangkok, and also the first overseas monorail vehicle project exported and delivered by PATS. The line is equipped with 30 4-car monorail trains, and the driving mode will adopt the fully automated unmanned driving technology that currently advanced worldwide.

Bangkok, Thailand ranks among the top in the world in terms of traffic congestion. The yellow line will also connect six other lines: the blue line of the MRT, the orange line of the MRT (under construction), the gray line of the MRT (under planning), the brown line of the MRT, the airport express line (Bangkok) and the BTS Sukhumvit line for transferring. Therefore, it will become an important cross city connecting line in the central northeast and eastern regions of Bangkok.

In addition, PATS also provided the same monorail vehicles for the Pink Line in Bangkok , which connects the Nonthaburi Civic Center and Min Buri in Bangkok, with a total length of 34.5 kilometers and 30 stations. It is planned to be put into operation in 2024. After the opening of these two lines, they can greatly alleviate traffic congestion in Bangkok's urban area, while also enhancing the economic development potential of Bangkok and its surrounding areas.

In the past two years, in order to ensure the smooth opening and operation of the Yellow line,  the leaders of PATS have attached great importance to this, allocated advantageous resources, actively coordinated with the line operation company, and carefully made the operation guarantee plan. From design and development, production, testing, logistics and after-sales service, we provide high-quality services to meet customer needs. PATS not only arranges professional employees to stationed overseas for a long time, providing strong technical and after-sales support for testing, safe operation and other issues of the line; At the same time, various system technical experts have been organized multiple times to Bangkok to provide business training to the staff of the line operation company, covering fault diagnosis and handling, emergency fault handling, typical case explanations, and practical exercises. Both theory and practice are emphasized, strengthening communication and cooperation with customers.

Straddle monorail of the Yellow line

Introduction to the Pink and Yellow Straddle Monorail Project in Bangkok

In June 2017, the operator of Yellow Line, Eastern Bangkok Monorail, signed a turnkey contract with Alstom for the supply of straddle monorail systems. The straddle monorail trains in the project are all provided by PATS, and PATS provides 72 4-car straddle monorail trains, with a total of 288 vehicles for the project. This is the first export project of straddle monorail trains in Anhui Province, and the vehicles are designed and manufactured with the highest level GoA4 fully automatic unmanned driving technology and international advanced standards. By the end of 2022, all vehicles in the project have been delivered.

In recent years, PATS has not only focused on the domestic market, but also integrated the  international layout into the "the Belt and Road" initiative. The smooth opening of the yellow line has added more confidence to the export of the company’s products. In the future, our products will serve more cities and regions around the world, providing more convenient solutions for mid-low capacity rail transit.
